About

Doug Cerasi

I am born and raised in Westchester County, NY. After high school, I attended college in Charlotte, NC. After spending the better part of two decades in Charlotte, the calling of home and the northeast became powerful and in the latter part of 2021 my family and I moved to Fairfield, CT.

Having experienced several difficult life events (and having benefited from counseling), and while looking for a career change after 11 years as a teacher, I decided to go back to school to be a mental health counselor. I graduated from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 20018 with a Master’s degree in in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have been in practice since 2018 and have worked in a variety of settings including schools, community mental health, substance abuse clinics and group practice settings. My experience includes work with both adolescents and adults.

My credentials, certifications and training include:

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in state of Connecticut (5117);

  • Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in state of North Carolina (14547);

  • National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board of Certified Counselors;

  • EMDR Trained Therapist through the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA).

I believe that counseling is an integrative system, combining a variety of approaches tailored to each individual’s unique circumstances. I emphasize a supportive environment for you to develop personal goals and explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. My belief is that effective counseling lies within the relationship between client and counselor.

I work with adults of all ages. Additionally, with my background in education I enjoy working with adolescents/teens, utilizing a variety of therapeutic approaches. Therapy is a journey and I believe in creating an environment where people can explore their experiences and tell their story in their own time.

Outside the office, I enjoy music, snowboarding, exercising (running/walking, biking, hiking, and CrossFit), spending time outside in nature, cheering for my favorite New York sports teams (Mets, Jets, & Rangers), and of course, time with family and friends, including my wife, daughters, and our chocolate lab Freddy.
